Writings on Wooden Fish

Posted by AsceticMonk at 11:19 AM on September 1, 2004.

The design work of Wooden Fish has finished, and so far I've published only four entries. The writing has become harder than I expected, but I will not back down from challenges, I will strive to deliver the best.

The original idea is to make the content of my two blogs significantly different. Meditation Garden is dedicated to my personal thoughts and rantings, also my opinions on current events. On the other hand, I want Wooden Fish to contain nothing but my literary works: proses, poems and maybe even short stories. However sometimes that distinction is blurred and not very conspicuous.

So far Wooden Fish has presented me tremendous challenge. The writing process is slow and sometimes even painful. During the process I have learned my inadequacy, my lack of vocabulary. Sometimes a piece is revised countless times before it is finally published on the front page. Other times words flow out naturally from my heart. I have a high standard for Wooden Fish, and I am working hard to keep it.

Virtual Girlfriend

Posted by AsceticMonk at 04:13 PM on August 25, 2004.

In this age of information and technology, some people believe that technology or perhaps science is the answer to everything, the answer to all the problems that human can possibly face today, even our spiritual and emotional need.

Accoding to this article, a HK company has developed a new video game for lonely men who do not have a partner. With this game in your mobile phone, you will officially own a virtual girlfriend to spice up your boring pathetic life. However it seems to me more like an unreasonable and thoughtless product rather than a beneficial cure to single men.

But there is a downside to the virtual girlfriend - she will require more flowers and gifts than many real women.

Then what is so good about this virtual girlfriend, if she requires even more gifts than a real woman? More gifts to what?! To a non-existent virtual girlfriend. Besides these flowers and gifts are not bought with fake virtual money but rather with real cash.

On top of a general subscription, men will be charged a fee to buy flowers and gifts for the virtual girlfriend.

I wonder what kind of image does the company have in mind when the company thinks about its intended male consumers. We might be lonely, but certainly we are not desperate idiots, who would spend tons of money on some virtual girlfriends that live not in real world, but in the tiny screen of mobile phones. I would rather spend money on real girls.

All virtual girls will look the same - but each girl will behave differently - depending on how much money is spent on her.

Wow, what a relief! They all look the same but behave differently. Is this supposed to be a big selling point?

In return, she will introduce them to different aspects of her life, like letting them meet her female friends - also electronic images.

Okay, so that's what we get for return: electronic images of her other female friends? This is simply ridiculous!

Wooden Fish

Posted by AsceticMonk at 12:07 PM on August 16, 2004.

Finally I have managed to finish customizing WordPress to my own style. It is pretty simple, nothing fancy. As far as I know, there are still some issues with IE, I will fix them later or maybe not. The name of the site is Wooden Fish, why? I will not offer any explanation, go figure out yourself, I think it is very obvious.

I wish friends over here would take some time to visit my new blog, for the content of Wooden Fish will be very different than Tabulas. I will continue to blog on Tabulas, but I will publish all my literary writings over at Wooden Fish. All the personal blogs will still be here at Tabulas, since Wooden Fish's URL will be given out to all my friends.

Okay, design is done, now I should devote more time on writing and blogging. I hope all of you like Wooden Fish. Comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Baggage Holder

Posted by AsceticMonk at 11:20 PM on August 15, 2004.

You are just standing there, with a mysterious smile on your face, while I am trying day and night to decode the messages in your smile. Soon I realize I am not just decoding that smile, but rather I am decoding myself. If there were a thousand thoughts crossing my mind when you smiled at me, then I would probably find a thousand answers, but they are merely my interpretation, not yours, never yours. The shortest path here is the distance between you and me: walk over and ask you, would you like to be my baggage holder, and travel with me into the mountains?
