WordPress Updates

Posted by AsceticMonk at 09:02 AM on August 3, 2004.

Sorry for the recent lack of updates on this blog. I have devoted most of my free time on customizing and designing my newly installed WordPress, which will soon become my primary weblog. So far I have encountered numerous problems with CSS, mainly due to my lack of understanding and experience with this particular language. I've read guides and tutorials before, I've done some tweakings of some existing CSS codes, but I've never written CSS code from scratch, and that's why I have so many problems now. Although the process is painful and slow, but I am overcoming difficulties one by one each day, it is a great and valuable learning experience, and as time passes on I believe I will get better.

The title of this new blog was "Monk Expression", now I switched to "Wooden Fish", which is an instrument used in temples by monks. The site is still unfinished and CSS code is still incomplete, but it looks pretty good so far to me. Once the new blog is ready to be launched, I will think about more on what to write on each blog, certainly I will not abandon my Tabulas blog, since I have made so many friends here.

Segments of My Mind

Posted by AsceticMonk at 11:32 PM on August 4, 2004.

Tuesday, as usual the morning sky of San Diego looks cloudy and a bit gloomy. Maybe just me, although it is known that weather affects one's mood, but I think one's mood also affect the appearance of the world in beholder's eyes. Come in work early, the lab is still dark when I made my entrance, I turned on the light and sit down immediately to begin coding. My time thus composes infinite number of keystrokes. Sometimes I wonder if there is a song or a melody hidden in my keystrokes, maybe there is, but they just die undetected, what a loss! So I sit here, staring not a human but my monitor, and I am relaxed, I feel safe, feel a bit of blue too.

Still recall, over the weekend, reading the book, the book that took me so long to read, and still haven't finished reading it. It makes me think, re-evaluate the purpose and meaning of my life. But the thought process does not stop on just that, it shouldn't. It should be extented beyond that, beyond the perspective of a single individual, but to extent all tentacles to touch every single human on this earth possible. So spend at least 15 minutes to ponder, think about yourself, think about anything beyond your daily shopping, your monthly bill and your annual promotion, and see what do you get out of it? Enlightenment or disillusion? Don't ask me, I have no answer, I am still searching mine.

Baggage Holder

Posted by AsceticMonk at 11:20 PM on August 15, 2004.

You are just standing there, with a mysterious smile on your face, while I am trying day and night to decode the messages in your smile. Soon I realize I am not just decoding that smile, but rather I am decoding myself. If there were a thousand thoughts crossing my mind when you smiled at me, then I would probably find a thousand answers, but they are merely my interpretation, not yours, never yours. The shortest path here is the distance between you and me: walk over and ask you, would you like to be my baggage holder, and travel with me into the mountains?

Wooden Fish

Posted by AsceticMonk at 12:07 PM on August 16, 2004.

Finally I have managed to finish customizing WordPress to my own style. It is pretty simple, nothing fancy. As far as I know, there are still some issues with IE, I will fix them later or maybe not. The name of the site is Wooden Fish, why? I will not offer any explanation, go figure out yourself, I think it is very obvious.

I wish friends over here would take some time to visit my new blog, for the content of Wooden Fish will be very different than Tabulas. I will continue to blog on Tabulas, but I will publish all my literary writings over at Wooden Fish. All the personal blogs will still be here at Tabulas, since Wooden Fish's URL will be given out to all my friends.

Okay, design is done, now I should devote more time on writing and blogging. I hope all of you like Wooden Fish. Comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Virtual Girlfriend

Posted by AsceticMonk at 04:13 PM on August 25, 2004.

In this age of information and technology, some people believe that technology or perhaps science is the answer to everything, the answer to all the problems that human can possibly face today, even our spiritual and emotional need.

Accoding to this article, a HK company has developed a new video game for lonely men who do not have a partner. With this game in your mobile phone, you will officially own a virtual girlfriend to spice up your boring pathetic life. However it seems to me more like an unreasonable and thoughtless product rather than a beneficial cure to single men.

But there is a downside to the virtual girlfriend - she will require more flowers and gifts than many real women.

Then what is so good about this virtual girlfriend, if she requires even more gifts than a real woman? More gifts to what?! To a non-existent virtual girlfriend. Besides these flowers and gifts are not bought with fake virtual money but rather with real cash.

On top of a general subscription, men will be charged a fee to buy flowers and gifts for the virtual girlfriend.

I wonder what kind of image does the company have in mind when the company thinks about its intended male consumers. We might be lonely, but certainly we are not desperate idiots, who would spend tons of money on some virtual girlfriends that live not in real world, but in the tiny screen of mobile phones. I would rather spend money on real girls.

All virtual girls will look the same - but each girl will behave differently - depending on how much money is spent on her.

Wow, what a relief! They all look the same but behave differently. Is this supposed to be a big selling point?

In return, she will introduce them to different aspects of her life, like letting them meet her female friends - also electronic images.

Okay, so that's what we get for return: electronic images of her other female friends? This is simply ridiculous!
